Warrior Updates

Principal's Message

These first months of school have been great! Can you believe that we are at the end of the first nine weeks of school?! There has been lots of learning going on and we are super proud of how much our Warriors have grown thus far this year!
Teachers have started parent conferences. They will be sharing a lot of data with you. Feel free to ask questions and collaborate with them about how to make this the best year for your Warriors!
Please remember that in the morning at car rider drop off that students are waiting for staff members to either open the door or signal that it is safe to get out.  We want to ensure safety for all!
Please remember to make sure that you have updated the individuals who are approved to pick up your Warrior in Final Forms.  This helps with early dismissals and afternoon pickups.
We hope that everyone enjoys their fall break!!

Important Information

ParentSquare Information

ParentPortal: All families have access to ParentPortal. This allows you to see your child’s absences and in grades 3-5 it is very helpful to be able to see your child’s assignments along with the grade received. Each student is given a unique code to be registered. If you need this information, you can request it by sending a ParentSquare message to Marsha Tollison or by calling the school to request the directions to be sent home.

WES Expectations

What does it mean to choose your best self?  Talk to your Warrior about the following.  What else can you guys think of?
Instructional Settings
Listen and follow directions.
Take care of your school.

Attendance Information

Attendance: Excuses for absences need to be submitted within three days of the child’s return to school. Absence excuses can be submitted three different ways: (1) sending in a note or dr. statement to your child’s homeroom teacher, (2) responding to the ParentSquare notification (cannot attach a document), or (3) using the link in ParentSquare to submit a Google Form that allows a picture of the medical excuse or note to be uploaded. Students that have 3 consecutive unexcused absences or 5 unexcused absences will be put on an Attendance Intervention Plan. If you have any questions, you can reach out to the database clerk, Marsha Tollison, at 864-718-5005.

First Quarter Report Cards: The first quarter of school has come to a close on Friday, October 2nd. Report Cards will be sent home along with being emailed  on Thursday, October 22nd. PreK4 and Kindergarten students do not receive a report card in the first quarter. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher.

Please read the following policies that will be enforced regarding behavior and field trips.
  • 1st occurrence of In School Suspension (ISS) = Warning
  • 2nd occurrence of In School Suspension (ISS) = Student is not allowed to attend any field trip(s) that occur during the same nine weeks as the second occurrence of ISS.
  • Any occurrence of Out of School Suspension (OSS) = Student is not allowed to attend any day or night field trip(s) during the same nine weeks as the occurrence of OSS.
Any deposits that have been paid will not be refundable. Please note that administration reserves the right to make final decisions regarding students attending field trips.

The Expert Corner

Counselor Corner

See the ParentSquare post about our Core Essentials.

Reading Coach Corner

Here are a few “spook-tacular” strategies to support reading at home. You will find age-appropriate tips such as reading aloud, asking questions, and practicing letters and sounds for Grades K-2, as well as strategies for Grades 3–5, including making connections, summarizing, and identifying text features. Use these activities to make reading at home a fun and meaningful part of everyday life.

Math Coach Corner

Math Activities for Home!
K-2
Card Flip: Who Has More?
You need: A deck of cards
Remove face cards. Each player flips 1–3 cards and makes a number.
The player with the greater number wins the round.
Make it harder:
Have players explain their thinking using place value. Ask: “Which digit helped you decide?”
3-5
Grocery Store Estimator
Next time you are shopping, choose 3–5 items.
Have your child:
Estimate the total cost.
Find the actual total.
Compare the estimate to the actual amount.
Decide whether the estimate was reasonable.
Ask: “What did you round each price to?”
Challenge: Estimate the cost of 10 items.

Library Corner

  • We are excited to invite students in all grades to dress as a storybook character from a book of their choice for our October 30 parade! Keep costumes simple, fun, and book-inspired. Students should bring the book that inspired their costume. Please remember: No frightening costumes or face-covering masks. No weapons or dangerous-looking items, including plastic or toy versions. More parade details and information will be shared closer to the event.
  • Warrior Family Books and Breakfast:  Ahoy, Warrior Families! Our next Warrior Family Books and Breakfast is October 19–23, and we’re setting sail on a Pirate Adventure! Families will enjoy breakfast, reading together, and a fun pirate-themed STEAM activity. Come ready to read, explore, and make memories together!
