Warrior Updates

Principal's Message

I'm so thankful to be a part of the WES family!! These first few weeks I have walked around feeling such gratitude for all those who make up our WES family!!
Thank you for your patience as we have worked through drop off and pick up times. Car rider pick up is now ending closer to 3:00 so please make sure you are in the line by 3:00.
Please remember that car riders in grades first through fifth students must be picked up on the side loop by the gym and the big playground. The line will wrap around the playground. Please do not enter the other  way as we will not be able to put in your car tag number. Also, please remember your ID if you are coming   to check students out early. Again thank you for a great start to the year!
The 26-27 school year will be one of the best here at WES!

Important Information

ParentSquare Information

ParentPortal: All families have access to ParentPortal. This allows you to see your child’s absences and in grades 3-5 it is very helpful to be able to see your child’s assignments along with the grade received. Each student is given a unique code to be registered. If you need this information, you can request it by sending a ParentSquare message to Marsha Tollison or by calling the school to request the directions to be sent home.

WES Expectations

What does it mean to choose your best self?  Talk to your Warrior about the following.  What else can you guys think of?

Attendance Information

Attendance: Excuses for absences need to be submitted within three days of the child’s return to school. Absence excuses can be submitted three different ways: (1) sending in a note or dr. statement to your child’s homeroom teacher, (2) responding to the ParentSquare notification (cannot attach a document), or (3) using the link in ParentSquare to submit a Google Form that allows a picture of the medical excuse or note to be uploaded. Students that have 3 consecutive unexcused absences or 5 unexcused absences will be put on an Attendance Intervention Plan. If you have any questions, you can reach out to the database clerk, Marsha Tollison, at 864-718-5005.

Student Handbook Highlight

HALFTIME
Halftime marks the middle of each 9 weeks. This pause in the middle of each nine weeks will help students refocus their efforts and make sure they’re working to achieve their goals. Parents of students in Grades 3, 4, and 5 will receive a printed grade report from PowerSchool to sign and return. Parents of students in grades K, 1, and 2 will receive a Halftime report to keep at home. Teachers will be meeting with students individually to reevaluate student goals. Halftime reports will come home the following dates:
1st nine weeks - August 31st
2nd nine weeks - November 16th
3rd nine weeks - February 8th
4th nine weeks - April 26th

Half-time Reports: It’s hard to believe that it’s time for Half-time Reports/Progress Reports. Families should receive these on Monday, August 31st.

The Expert Corner

Looking to help your Warrior in reading, math, or social emotional? This section is for you!

Counselor Corner

See the ParentSquare post about our Core Essentials.

Reading Coach Corner

Check out these simple reading strategies you can use at home to
support your K-2 and 3-5 students.
From reading together and talking about stories to asking questions,
identifying key ideas, and making connections, these strategies help children build confidence, comprehension, and a lifelong love of reading.

Math Coach Corner

Math Activities for Home!
Looking for a fun way to practice math at home? Try our Roll, Build & Compare activities! K–2 students can roll dice, build their numbers using everyday objects, and compare to see who has more. Grades 3–5 can roll 3–5 dice and arrange the digits to create the largest or smallest number possible while practicing place value, comparing numbers, and rounding.
These quick, hands-on activities are a fun way to build math skills using items you may already have at home. A little math practice today can build big confidence tomorrow!

Library Corner

What a wonderful first Warrior Family Books & Breakfast! We had over 28 families join us for a morning filled with reading, connection, fun, and a little STEM excitement! Everyone had a great time, and we even had some lucky students go home with prizes! Be sure to check out the pictures on Facebook. We are already looking forward to our next Warrior Family Books and Breakfast, happening September 21–25 from 7:30–8:00 a.m in the library. We hope to see even more of our Warrior families there!
